Not that anyone else will be the least bit concerned one way or another, but I really need to record this moment for my own satisfaction. Yesterday I beat the expert level of Spider Solitaire, after a whopping 56 attempts. It made me very happy. It was even more satisfying than beating expert level minesweeper. Excellent.

I learned to play spider on a program that didn't have easy or intermediate levels, just the real game (though now I only play intermediate) and it's worth noting that, unlike freecell, spider is not a game where it is -possible- to win every game.

Amazingly enough - given my abject ignorance of so many things solitaire - I am, and have been, aware since I started playing it, that this particular game is very much a matter of the luck of the deal. However, I find that my percentage of wins over runs of 100 games does improve over time as I learn good strategies for card movement.

I'm so glad you felt you should share your knowledge with me in an encouraging manner. Happily, if you never felt so inclined again, I would somehow manage to go on.

I'm sorry. It's pretty clear that you feel I was belittling your achievement and I'm sorry it came across that way. I was trying to say that

A) it's one of my favorite games, too
B) you're obviously better at it than I am 'cause I only play with two suits
C) a game is more difficult when not every hand is solvable.

I'm sorry I expressed it so badly.

Jennifer, here is the thing. Against my better judgement and everything my brain is screaming at me right now, I'm going to respond to you one more time.

A) I most sincerely did not feel belittled by your comment. What I felt was supremely irritated that yet again, you had used my happy little burst of self-satisfaction to express your seemingly bottomless knowledge of everything and clear assumption that the rest of us are poor ignorant fools who need you to educate us.
B) You do this often enough that a relatively minor offense led me to completely loose my temper - and I do mean loose - not lose.
C) I took you off my friend's list some time ago so that I would not be tempted to offer you any advice ever again, despite the fact that I have kept you on there for a long time because I enjoy how you write.
D) It would probably be a good idea for you to reciprocate.
